In this episode
Mikael "Mickey" Gemeda is a 7-year-old boy who happens to be the owner and creator of Mickey's Mustard Seeds, an inspirational keychain and jewelry line that he created amidst the COVID 19 pandemic.
Mickey, along with his two younger brothers, creates his handmade mustard seed creations. While in quarantine, Mickey watched the news with his Grandma, a retired police officer who moved in with his family due to COVID 19 cases at her Assisted Living community.
Seeing the riots, sickness, and sadness, he wanted to remind first his family, then his neighborhood and now, the world, that they should not lose faith. He based his keychains on the scripture that his parents recited to him, Matthew 17:20 ..."If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can tell a mountain to move from here to there, and it will move. And nothing will be impossible to you."
Mickey's goal is to shine a light during this dark time, and with Mickey's Mustard Seeds, he is able to do just that. Not only does he sell his items, but he brings extra with him during community outreaches so he can hand them out to strangers.
Mickey is still very much a kid. He loves playing barefoot in his backyard, building anything out of leftover cardboard boxes, Sonic the Hedgehog, getting brain freeze from popsicles, singing and being silly with his brothers.
He is a member of Second Baptist Church in Olathe, KS, and he loves children's church, though he has not been able to attend physically due to the pandemic. He is also one of the Kansas City founding members of Mini Missions; a children led community outreach non-profit.
The children or Minis, as they are called, do good deeds in their local and international communities. Feeding the homeless population, giving out high fives, painting kindness rocks, and donating to shelters are a few activities. The slogan for Mini Missions is, "Small people make a BIG difference," and with Mickey's Mustard Seeds, he is thankful to make a difference in his own way while walking amongst Giants.
